Precinct Committeeman (PC) Information
Thanks
you for showing interest in becoming a Republican Precinct Committeeman (PC) --
the most important elected official in the party.
As
a PC, you will get the opportunity to meet elected officials, help determine
the outcome of elections, and become a Republican leader in the community. More
importantly, you will be part of the leadership team that helps elect
candidates who share the Republican ideals of lower taxes, less government and
more individual freedoms.
What
is a PC?
The
precinct is the smallest, yet most important political subdivision in Arizona.
Technically, a precinct is a geographical area established by law for election
purposes. Each precinct in Arizona elects PCs from each major party to organize
the party in that precinct. The number of PCs for each major party elected in
each precinct is based on the number of people registered in the party in the
precinct.
What
does a PC do?
PCs
act as the bridge between voters and the candidates and elected officials and
the foundation of the Party. The duties of PCs include helping the Republican Party
grow and assisting in the election of Republican candidates to office. The work
that a PC does can make the deciding difference in any election. Some of the
duties of a PC include:
1. Persuading voters in your
precinct to vote for the Republican candidates.
2. Registering Republican voters
in your precinct.
3. Help recruit other Republican
volunteers and PCs. The best way accomplish the other goals and have fun is to
get as many people involved as possible.
4.
Attend district and/or county Republican meetings. These are a great place to
meet other local active Republicans and to share information and ideas.
How
does someone become a PC?
PCs
are elected in the party's primary election every two years. A person, who
wants to become a PC, obtains a small number of signatures (never more than 10)
and his/her name appears on the ballot and is elected if they receive
sufficient votes.
If someone wants to become a PC
between elections and a vacancy exists in the precinct, the party can appoint
someone to fill vacancy. If you are interested in becoming a PC or just helping
out in the next election call John at 419-8090 or David at 906-8111 or send an e-mail.
